This update introduces two major new features – a Command Palette for fast keyboard-driven navigation and an embedded MCP server for AI assistant integration – along with a custom month start day, sidebar improvements, and several bug fixes.
New: Command Palette
Meet Cashculator’s new Command Palette, a quick-access launcher that puts the whole app at your fingertips without reaching for the mouse.
-
Search and run actions, switch themes, change reports, or navigate directly to any category or date column
-
Find transactions by amount using fuzzy search, so close-enough is good enough
-
Keyboard shortcuts appear alongside each action as a built-in reference
-
Adapts to how you work – actions you use most rise to the top over time
-
Fully localized across all 13 supported languages
Launch it from anywhere with Command-K.
Power users who prefer to keep their hands on the keyboard can now navigate the entire app without lifting their hands from the keyboard – press Command-K, type a few characters, and press Return.
New: Embedded MCP server for AI assistant integration
Cashculator now includes a built-in MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that lets AI tools – like Claude – read, analyze, and work with your financial data through a standardized interface.
-
Browse categories, view totals, and explore spending breakdowns
-
Search and filter transactions, add new ones, or delete existing entries
-
Manage scenarios directly from your AI assistant
-
Works with any MCP-compatible AI tool
Find it in Settings → Advanced.
A little more about the MCP server: Since this feature gives an AI tool access to your financial data and we don’t want to be at all sneaky about this, here’s what’s happening: the MCP server runs locally on your Mac and communicates only with AI tools you configure yourself – no data is sent anywhere automatically. You control which tools connect and what they can do. To enable it, open Settings → Advanced and follow the setup instructions there.

New: Custom month start day
Set your budget month to begin on any day of the month, not just the first. Perfect when your pay cycle lands on the 15th or a subscription renews mid-month and you want your budget view to match.
Improved:
- Transaction sidebar now remembers your preferred sort order between sessions
Fixed:
-
Fix duplicate rows created during CSV import of similar content
-
Fix category navigation when the target is inside a collapsed group
-
Fix duplicate context menu entries appearing after scenario operations
Thank you to everyone who reported these issues, and thank you for your continued support!
